John O’Shea (1876-1956)
John O’Shea was born in Ballintaylor, Ireland, in 1876 and moved to the United States at the age of 16, settling in New York where he studied at the Art Students League. O’Shea eventually moved to California, and after 4 years in Pasadena moved north to Carmel, where he would serve as President and Director of the Carmel Art Association.
A bold colorist equally adept in oils and watercolors, John O’Shea traveled extensively throughout the American southwest and the south Pacific islands. O’Shea died in Carmel in 1956. | |
